ChordPro Buddy App Reviews

Hard to imagine anything better!

Ive been using this app for quite a while now and Im very happy with it. I had an idea for something Id like to see in it. sent Gerald an email about it. He replied immeadiately. Turned out it was already in the program:) I would not hesitate an instant to recommend it.

Ive been searching for this App!

ChordPro Buddy does exactly what it advertises... Period. I perform for small audiences and my memory is getting worse. Chordpro Buddy scrolls the lyrics and chords, at just the right speed, right in front of me. I can change the contrast, colors, Fonts and Font sizes….Perfect….just what the doctor ordered!

Exactly what Ive been Looking for

Ive used this app for several gigs (weddings), and its simply amazing! Brilliant concept, well designed, excellent customizability. It would be great for an implementation with setlists, so that I could group songs by gig (possibly with one click jumping to the next song), but other than that, its perfect. I also recommend using Chordsmith as a way to convert two line format to chordpro, just to really speed up the workflow of entering songs into ChordBuddy. Seriously, I cant thank you enough for this app. Excellent work!

Great App!

This is great! I got songbook for the iPad, but typing on that touch screen is slow... This app allows me to cut and paste lyrics right in, and use hot keys to add chords!!! When using the iPad, be sure and check out the Page Flip Cicada!!!! its a Bluetooth pedal that can do tons of stuff hands free on your iPad!!! Thanks for making Chordpro Buddy! It ROCKS!

ChordPro Buddy- A Great App For Mac

Im an active musician and well seasoned to say the least. The iSO apps for iPad are great but a little hard to see if youre a senior musician. I perfrom with a duo partner and using this app in a small MacBook is perfect for sharing at gigs. This app makes it easy to carry a 300 tune song list and never drop a verse or chord. One of the great features of the app is, I have songs written in Pages Ive been collecting for years and when I need to perform a song I havent played in a while, I simply copy it to ChordPro Buddy and use the hot keys to tag the song to use all the features of the software. Adding new songs is as simple as downloading chord pro tagged songs at selected lyric and chord song sites. Its simple to correct chord and lyric mistakes and align the chords over the correct words to guide you through the song. This is a feature packed software with a simple, easy to use interface. With auto scroll, a flexible timer and easy editing you cant find a better software for Mac that is as user friendly as ChordPro Buddy. Gerald Flossmann is to be commended on this wondeful app and his prompt support response...

ChordPro Buddy my new best friend

Chord Pro Buddy is an awesome app for any musician but for a guitarist it is unbeatable. I used to use a program called songbase, which cost $130 annually. This is a one time $9.99 fee and does everything that the other program did. The tech support comes directly from the creator; there are not enough starts to properly represent him. Awesome app *****

A focused app at its finest

I am an amateur singer-songwriter who loves to play the guitar. I have been struggling to get my songs down in a usable format. I have looked at other apps but they just seemed over done. This is perfect, easy to use and it does exactly what I need to get my songs documented and sharable. Nice work!

Nothing like it!

I havent found a program that even comes close to ChordPro Buddy. Nice features, well worth the money!

Who is the Developer paying for the 5 star ratings?

Seriously - This is the worst, clumsiest, (and ugliest) app I own (and geez I sure was suckered into buying it at a grossly inflated price). It should be free, or better yet, pay me 99 cents to use it. The interface is all coding where there should be an inspector to simply drop the chords into place. That obviously doesnt exist in the images shown, but it would be better. The beef that caused me to make this one star comment is pretty simple, but relevant. No one uses legal paper yet it defaults to legal paper when printing. When the paper size is changed to that which everyone else in the world uses (letter) the chords and whole lines of lyrics are cut off from the tops and bottoms of pages. Also, adding a chord is the most burdensome process Ive used. One should be able to click on strings and frets to teach the program new chords (and lord it could use a lot of learning when it comes to chords). This looks and feels like a lame WIndows program ungracefully adapted for Mac.

Does almost everything I need it to do

I say almost, because there are a couple of featues in printing and organizing songlists that I would like to be included. But I emailed the Developer and they are in a future release. I love this app and use it constantly for putting the songs I do into chord pro format and printing them out to share at jam sessions while learning a new song. I could not figure out how to do something in the app and when I wrote the development team, I received a prompt reply that explained how to do it. This IS a polished application and I am always finding some tasty features in it. At first, I didnt like the way the songs looked, but it was easy to change the Font size and style and how each part of the song is displayed. It is really flexible and I saved the layout template and made it my default. A great application.

A Great App and Even Better Support 5 Stars

I got a notice to update and attempted to do so. The app updated but the notice for available update would not "clear" so I deleted the app and in an attempt to re-load it again, I am told that the app is installed when it is not and I can not get the AppStore Icon to clear the message that an update is available. After contacting the Vendor, he sent me another version for my usage in a very short period of time. Great support as usual. However he was unable to help in getting the update status to "clear " and suggested I contact Apple. I have done so and will follow up when I hear from Apple. I understand this is not totally unheard of. I have no formal music training and this App has allowed me to enjoy a great number of songs. If the key is wrong for me, I use the easy transpose feature and I am off and running. I can not stress enough, the support that Gerald provides. Even when I ask questions showing my musical ignorance. Thank You for this very useful and easy to use App! Keep Up the Great Work.

very limited

I was initially impressed by what I saw on the website. There is no demo. I paid the $10 to try it and Im sorry I did, its got a long ways to go and there are free alternatives which do this and more. No WYSIWYG editor, very limited layout, cant change margins, cant center the title, can embed tabs but only in a huge font. Other people seem happy with it.

Dont Buy

Do not purchase this app. It is cryptic and not ready to be marketed at any price, not even free. While it has its good points such as key conversion and display scrolling, the method of placing chords in the right places above the lyrics is tedious, laborious, and inaccurate. Specifically, you type the lyrics of a song you want to display (or print). To place the appropriate chords in the right places above the lyrics, you have to insert the chord between the letters of that word using brackets, braces, and other symbols. And youre only guessing between which letters to place the chord. You have to look at another screen to see the actual layout. And if its incorrect, you go back to the first screen and move the embedded chord to a different place within that word. Youd be better off typing the lyrics and chords in a word processer such as Word or Pages.

I wish I could return this product

Within 5 minutes I wished I had not shelled out the $10 this product cost. I wanted to find a way to produce fretboard chording charts, but found the program too difficult to figure out. I do not know how to undo the installation and obtain a refund.

Love this App

This app is perfect for creating chord lead sheets for our worship team. We use it in conjunction with the Songbook app on our iPads via a Dropbox for worship. When there is weird chord fingerings we can implant them but normally just use the Alpha notations; most worship songs use standard fingers. In areas of songs that are chord heavy, we just use additional spaces to get a nice readable chord lead sheet. There is a bit of a learning curve to take advantage of all the functions; but so much of the transcribing is keyboard driven which makes editing and learning quite fast. Corresponding with Gerald, he stated that as time allows he will work on enhancements. Plenty useful as is though. After transcribing a little over 200 songs, I have not found any bugs and would recommend this app to musicians for is chord lead sheets.

Works as advertised

This software works as advertised - what more could one ask? Some complaints have to do with the "coding" nature of the input, but thats what ChordPro files are! Its like complaining about the coding nature of LaTeX.

Rocks!

I love having my chord sheets in chord pro format, and Chord Pro Buddy is the best app for dealing with .cho files Ive ever seen. The import function makes it a snap to convert all my old text and .doc file documents to .cho, and its quick and easy to edit and tweak the formatting, size, colors, etc. The two-pane view is nice to see your changes as youre editing, and the keyboard shortcuts are valuable to get around quickly. In general, its a very well thought-out app from a developer who seems to understand what I need to do, and provides nice tools to do it.

Ultimate song writing tool!

This is the most flexible tool I’ve yet seen for the customizing of song lyric and chords. You just have to accept that the chord pro format isn’t the sexiest but it’s the best tool for formatting songs that can easily be imported and exported. Millions of songs on the internet use this formatting so often you can find the file you want and voila! import the formatted song in one step. It has a slight learning curve but it’s well worth the effort. There are many other programs that have a lot of bells and whistles, such as helping you manage all the millions you’ll be making with your tunes. I’ll worry about that later and concentrate on songwriting for now. ChordPro Buddy handles that quite well!

Easy! Inexpensive! Useful!

I play guitar for my own entertainment. For my needs and rather-amatuer guitar talents, this application is a bargain. I figured it out very quickly! I can now format my songs and save them to a pdf version. The scroll feature is cool. While you play, the chords/lyrics (along with your personal notes) scroll at a pace that you determine. No fumbling or page-turning. You Tube has some very helpful tutorials, if you need them.

Fantastic for creating an e-songbook for doing covers!

I have been using this app for quite a few years and love it. What many of these reviewers don’t realize, is that you can just import (paste) songs already formatted (from many sources). My system is quick and easy - find a song I would like to play, usually on chordie.com (which has a "view chopro" feature, from which you copy and paste). After dropping this into Chordpro Buddy, it is automatically formatted to my preset layout. I edit whatever I like, add a note, capo reminder, etc. - I then save it to my songbook folder in Dropbox. (you can of course, have categories within the songbook directory). On an iphone, iPad, or in my case a Kindle fire, I then use an app called Songbook which I can sync with this Dropbox folder. Voila! - from anywhere, I can use my device to scroll the lyrics and chords (with yellow characters on a black background, or whatever view you choose) to any of the hundreds of songs in my Dropbox folder. When playing for friends or family - I used to be frustrated by not remembering all the words - or the chords. Now I just have to worry about the quality of my singing and playing. The tunes themselves are always at my fingertips.
